Hofburg opening hours — door by door
The Treasury’s Tuesday closure is the one that bites — and it pushes the crowds to Wednesday, which is worth planning around. From 1 April 2026 the Treasury admits by reserved online time slot only, so the walk-up era is ending there. The Sisi Museum side sells fixed admission times too, and its museum section is closed for refurbishment from 6 October to 18 November 2026 — the apartments stay open, as I cover on the Sisi Museum page.
The Riding School runs its morning exercise on training days, roughly Tuesday to Friday mornings in season, and the Lipizzaners take summer breaks — check the dates when you book rather than assuming. My notes on what the session is and is not are in the training review.
Quietest window all year: January to March, on a weekday, right at 9:00. Worst: July–August mornings and December, when the Christmas market fills Michaelerplatz in front of the main gate.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Hofburg open every day?
The Sisi Museum and Imperial Apartments are — daily 9:00 to 17:30, last admission 16:30. The Treasury closes on Tuesdays, and the Riding School’s training runs roughly Tuesday to Friday mornings in season. Match the doors to your ticket on the prices page.
What day is the Imperial Treasury closed?
Tuesday, every week — and Wednesdays are busier because of it. From 1 April 2026 all Treasury admission is by reserved online time slot. If you hold the €34 combo, it stays valid ten days, so a Tuesday arrival costs you nothing but patience; details in the combo review.
What time is last admission at the Hofburg?
16:30 for the Sisi Museum and apartments, which need about an hour; the Treasury admits until 30 minutes before closing. Arriving for opening at 9:00 beats both cut-offs and the queues — more timing advice on how long you need.
